Our flights to Israel bring you to one of the most mysterious and spiritual places on earth, with its dramatic scenery, supernatural Dead Sea valley and the ancient city of Jerusalem, just a stone’s throw from modern Tel Aviv.
It’s mystical capital, Jerusalem, is one of the world’s religious centres – this early city combines twisting streets and markets with awe-inspiring historical sites. Constant prayers, whether quiet whispers or loud calls from the many mosques, reflect the importance of this metropolis for Muslims, Christians and Jews alike.
Although this fascinating country is packed with history, Israel also offers a range of extraordinary experiences for the modern traveller. Away from the capital are the relaxing bars and beaches of Tel Aviv – Israel’s second city is as well-known for its party atmosphere as for its evolving cultural scene and stark Bauhaus architecture. And with such a mix of cultures, the cuisine on offer in both cities is hard to beat.
If it’s nature you’re after, why not hunt out the coloured meteoric crater at Makhtesh Ramon or follow the rolling hills and valleys towards the Mediterranean coast, after a restorative float in the Dead Sea and via a stop off at the wineries of Galilee.
The beach (all 14 km of it) is the place to be in chilled-out Tel Aviv. Once you’ve had your fill of sunsets, laid-back beach bars and super-fresh seafood, why not explore the city’s booming design scene.
Get lost in the Old City as you experience the mix of Muslim, Christian and Jewish cultures. Don’t miss the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, traditionally the site of Jesus’s resurrection; the Islamic Temple Mount; or the Western or ‘Wailing’ Wall (the most important monument for the Jewish faith).
You’ve done The Old City, now head to The White City area of Tel Aviv. This UNESCO world heritage site is home to the largest concentration of Bauhaus buildings anywhere in the world. It’s a marvel of modern architecture, and a cool backdrop for the area’s design-led shops and bars.
A swim in the eerie waters of the Dead Sea is a bucket-list essential. With ten times the salt content of the nearby Mediterranean, this low-lying body of water infuses skin with beneficial minerals, and keeps you afloat. Head to Kalia Beach, for an Instagram-friendly mud bath.
