Whether you booked your original seat with points or money, it’s super-easy to upgrade to any Premium or Upper Class seat with points. And you can do it at any time - as long as there are seats available. Points prices vary based on demand, just like money, plus you’ll pay the usual taxes and fees on top.
To upgrade before you travel, simply log into My Booking and tap on the red web chat icon at the bottom of your screen to contact us. Alternatively, give us a call.
Or to upgrade at the airport, just head to the ticket desk or ask a member of the team at check in.
How much does an upgrade cost?
You can upgrade using a combination of points to cover the fare, and money to cover the taxes and fees.
If you’re looking to upgrade more than 24 hours before you fly, find out the cost to upgrade your flight.
If your original booking is a reward seat, you’ll pay:
The price in point of your new upgraded seat less the price in points of your original seat
Plus, any difference in taxes and fees between your original and new cabin you’re travelling in.
If your original booking was paid for fully in money or using Points Plus Money, you’ll pay:
The price in points of your new upgraded seat less the maximum Saver reward seat price for the cabin you’re upgrading from.
Plus, any difference in taxes, fees and charges between your original and new cabin you’re travelling in.
The amount you’ll pay in money will include a deduction of the carrier surcharge at the maximum Saver reward seat rate for the cabin you’re upgrading from.
If you want to find out about a possible upgrade less than 24 hours before you fly, or at the airport, we'll quote you a points upgrade price plus taxes and fees then and there if an upgrade is available.
Now you know how many points you need, you can secure that upgrade for your next flight.
We’ve simplified the Companion and Upgrade vouchers that you earn through your Virgin Atlantic Credit Card or Gold Flying Club status. From now on, we’re calling them Flying Club reward vouchers. Every time you earn one, they’ll give you a generous maximum points value which you can use to buy any seat or upgrade.
What would you be willing to pay for an upgrade? Name your price - we might just say yes.
If you're thinking of upgrading (hey, why wouldn’t you?) you can make us an offer on Your Bid, our online auction for upgrades. If your bid is accepted, you could very well score yourself a swanky new seat.
Remember upgrades are subject to availability on your flight. If you don't get the chance to bid, it's still worth checking for upgrade opportunities in My Booking, or ask us at the airport for upgrade options.
If you have a booking in Economy, did you know you can bid to upgrade to our Premium cabin? You'll have more space, priority boarding, upgraded dining and lots of extra touches to make your flight even more enjoyable. Make a bid, and give yourself a lovely treat
Dreaming of turning left? If you're already booked in Economy or Premium, you can bid to upgrade to the ultimate VIP experience in Upper Class. Fully flat beds, an onboard social space and access to award-winning Clubhouses are all within reach. Just make a bid, and keep your fingers crossed.
2. Simply tell us how much you’re willing to pay for an upgrade, by making a bid. Bids can be made up to two days before your flight is due to depart.
3. All bids will be assessed between 7 and 2 days prior to the scheduled departure date of your flight.
4. If there are multiple passengers in your booking you have to bid to upgrade all passengers. The amount you bid will be on a per passenger basis. For example, if you have a party of four and you wish to bid £100 for an upgrade, you will have to bid £400.
5. If your bid is accepted, congratulations, you've just bagged yourself an upgrade. We’ll send you an email to let you know.
6. You can make changes to your bid, or cancel it if you change your mind, until two days before your flight is due to depart. If your bid has been accepted you will not be able to cancel.
