Our flexible booking policy


We understand that the ever-changing travel restrictions can make planning your trip difficult, so we’ve got you covered. 

When you book to travel any time up to 31st December 2021, you can make up to two date changes and one name change* free of charge (if you’d like someone else to benefit from your ticket). You may not need to pay any difference in the fare either – see the table below for more on that.

We'll also waive the full fare difference if your new travel is completed before 31 March 2021.

You can rebook to travel any time up to 31 December 2022.

It’s important that you make any changes before the date you were originally due to fly, or we won’t be able to amend your booking.

If you booked with Virgin Holidays, or through another website or travel agent, please contact them directly for your options. 


Fare differences for rebooked travel dates from 1st April 2021

Nothing. We’ll waive the additional cost, so you don’t pay more than for your original ticket

The fare difference over those amounts. Eg. if your new fare is £100 more than your original Economy ticket, you’ll just pay the £40 difference.

Less than the original fare

Nothing. Refunds do not apply as per the original fare rules. 

For a different cabin or destination The full fare difference applies 

*Tickets issued before 12th June 2020 are entitled to one free change. After 12th June 2020 it’s two free changes, or one name change..

**For one-way trips, apply 50% of the respective amounts

This policy applies to all ticket types (including those that would normally be non-changeable) and all booking classes (including Economy Light) on all routes in Virgin Atlantic’s international network, and for tickets booked with us on our codeshare flights -  including our partners Delta, Air France and KLM. Your flight number will begin with the letters "VS". It also includes Flying Club redemption bookings.

Haven’t decided on new travel dates? We’ll keep your ticket open until you’re ready.

For immediate peace of mind, you can choose to keep your ticket open as credit, ready to rebook all the way up to 31st December 2022. The same flexible booking policy applies.

You’ll need to use the full value of your open ticket. If your new ticket price is lower, we can’t refund the difference (as per the original fare rules).

Once we receive your open ticket request, we’ll update your booking and send a confirmation. It might take a few days, just keep your booking reference safe.

The best way is through our Rebook my flights form. We'll check availability for your chosen destination and dates, and if there's no fare difference to pay, we’ll update your booking and email your new eTicket.

If we need to speak to you about anything, we'll get in touch via WhatsApp or SMS within 7 days to complete the process.

If you’re seeing this, it’s a holding status. It happens when your flight is cancelled and you've got an open ticket, but you've not yet rearranged your flights.
