The cost of an upgrade will depend on when you’re upgrading and your original booking.

Upgrading more than 24 hours before you fly:

To upgrade a reward seat, you’ll pay:

  • The points price of your new upgraded seat, less the points price of your original seat

  • Plus any difference in taxes and fees  

To upgrade a seat paid for in money, you’ll pay: 

  • The points price of your new upgraded seat, less the maximum Saver reward seat price for the cabin you’re upgrading from. 

  • Plus any difference in taxes and fees  

  • The amount you’ll pay in money will include a deduction of the carrier surcharge at the maximum Saver reward seat rate for the cabin you’re upgrading from.

 If you’d like to find out about a possible upgrade less than 24 hours before you fly, or at the airport, we'll quote you a points upgrade price plus taxes and fees then and there if an upgrade is available. 

Reward seats offer amazing flexibility to amend or cancel if your travel plans change.

Changing your reward seat booking  

This is how much it will cost per person each time you change your reward seat booking, including bookings made with a Flying Club reward voucher:

  • £70 per person for changes to flights from the UK.

  • $100 per person or local currency equivalent for flights from outside the UK.

  • If you need to pay anything extra in points, taxes or fees we’ll let you know when you contact us.

  • If the new reward seat costs less than your original one, we’ll refund the difference in points, taxes or fees. 

You’re welcome to change your:

  • Route

  • Travel date

  • Flight time 

Cancelling your reward seat booking  

You can cancel your reward seat booking, including a booking using a Flying Club reward voucher, for a fee. 

  • £70 per person for changes to flights originating in the UK

  • $100 per person or local currency equivalent for flights originating outside the UK

  • For cancellations made outside 24 hours of travel, you’ll receive a full refund of points, taxes and fees 

  • For cancellations made within 24 hours of travel, we will not be able to refund points or fees, but taxes will be refunded

Yes, the changes are effective from 30th October. If you’ve already booked using points before then, there are no changes to your reward seat booking.

When searching for a reward seat, you’ll see the price in points plus an amount in money to cover the taxes, fees and charges. You’ll need to log in to your Flying Club account first.

Yes, bookings made before 30th October, paid for in money or Points Plus Money, are eligible to earn Virgin Points. The new enhanced earn rate for Premium and Upper Class cabins applies to flights flown from 30th October.

You will earn up to 75% more Virgin Points in Premium and up to 50% more Virgin Points in Upper Class on the following Virgin Atlantic, Delta, Air France and KLM flights flown from 30th October:

  • Virgin Atlantic marketed and operated flights, with a flight number starting with VS.

  • Virgin Atlantic marketed and Delta operated flights, with a flight number starting with VS

  • Delta marketed and Virgin Atlantic operated flights, with a flight number starting with DL 

  • Virgin Atlantic marketed and Air France operated flights, with a flight number starting with VS

  • Air France marketed and Virgin Atlantic operated flights, with a flight number starting with AF

  • Virgin Atlantic marketed and KLM operated flights, with a flight number starting with VS

  • KLM marketed and Virgin Atlantic operated flights, with a flight number starting with KL 

Gold reward seats can no longer be booked. Any existing bookings made prior to 30th October will, of course, be honoured. Every seat is now available to buy with points anyway, with the added benefit of being able to use your Flying Club reward voucher – worth up to 150,000 points for Gold members – to get you there.  

 

Companion and Upgrade vouchers earned through your Virgin Atlantic Credit Card or your Gold Status have being simplified. They are now known as Flying Club reward vouchers, with a maximum points value that can be used against any seat purchase or upgrade. For more info, head to our dedicated voucher page.

We are no longer taking new Standard companion reward bookings. Any existing bookings made prior to 30th October will, of course, be honoured. If you wish to change your existing booking, you can do so if there is Saver reward seat availability for a £30/$50 change fee per person.
