Get your retail marathon off to a gentle start and venture to Orlando’s Ivanhoe Village, one of the city’s trendiest neighbourhoods. Overlooking Ivanhoe Lake and filled with historic architecture, the area attracts left-field shoppers with its Antique Row, chic stationers Paper Goat Post, and one exceptional record shop, Rock & Roll Heaven. Happily, it’s also home to the popular White Wolf Café and Bar, which is decked out in heirloom chandeliers and paintings and is ideally situated for a morning repast.

What’s a shopping day out without a splash of luxury? At Orlando’s soaring, palm-fringed Mall at Millennia, high fashion is what’s on offer, served up by brands ranging from Prada and Burberry to Gucci and Chanel. Scope the racks and admire the finery, and don’t feel too guilty if you come away with an armful of shopping bags – this is a holiday, after all. Once you’ve shopped to your wallet’s content, venture to the stylish Earls Kitchen + Bar for a refreshing order of tuna poke – and a kicky mescal cocktail with mango, lime, and Tabasco.

Where do you go when you when that shopping craving hits after-hours? Make your way to Orlando International Premium Outlets, which stays open until 11 pm every day (or until midnight on certain holidays). There, you’ll find more than 180 brand-name shops, from Coach and Michael Kors to Cole Haan and DKNY; best of all, everything’s priced from between 25-65% off. Once you’ve given your card a good workout, refuel with an on-trend “chimney cone”: these Eastern European pastries are covered with caramelised sugar and are utterly, decadently moreish.
