Morning: Begin your day out in Miami as you mean to continue: with a hearty dose of fun and frivolity. The morning is the perfect opportunity to bring kids to the beach, before it gets too toasty and sun cream needs to be reapplied. South Beach’s free, public beach is Miami’s most quintessential stretch of shoreline and, while it attracts a party set later in the day, morning is the ideal time for families to play in the sand, stroll along the boardwalk, and do some paddling. When it’s time for lunch, venture to the iconic Joe’s Stone Crab, where adults can tuck in to the eponymous stone crab claws and kids can enjoy a sweet reward in the form of key lime pie.
Afternoon: Afternoon means peak heat and sun in Miami and, for families after a spell in the air conditioning, few places are better to chill out than the Miami Children’s Museum. Located on teeny Watson Island, between Miami Beach and Downtown, the museum’s inspiring exhibitions include everything from a Castle of Dreams and Art Studio to the Sketch Aquarium, an interactive virtual aquarium where kids’ drawings “swim” through the currents.
Evening: There’s nothing quite as American – and family-friendly – as a night at the ballpark, and an evening at Marlins Park is the perfect way to wrap up a day of Miami adventuring. Open since 2012 and home to the two-time World Series-winning Miami Marlins, the stadium is air-conditioned and has a retractable roof for use during the scorching heights of baseball season. Beyond peanuts and crackerjack, the dinnertime offerings are also impressive: from Cuban ice cream and grilled cheese food trucks to taco-wrapped hot dogs and classic burgers, there’s plenty for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
