Make sure you're at the castle for 1pm, so you can hear the One o'clock Gun - fired nearly every day since 1861.

If you're looking for something interesting and free to do in Edinburgh, visit the Royal Botanic Garden. Home to over 15,000 species of plants, this is a great place for kids and adults alike to learn about the world's plant life.

Looking for a cultural experience? Head to Edinburgh during August and September and soak up the culture of the Edinburgh Festival - a collective of art and cultural festivals including dance, music, visual arts, theatre and international opera.

Arthur's Seat

Head to Holyrood Park for a walk up the highest peak in the Salisbury Crags, and you'll be rewarded with gorgeous views in every direction. What a way to get your steps in!
