Vera magazine

HBO and HBO Max are known for creating some of the greatest shows on the planet, and we're beyond excited to be the first UK airline to show “Friends: The Reunion, “The Flight Attendant,” and “Raised by Wolves” in our December onboard selection.

Here's our rundown of these three incredible shows and what else you can find in the December edition of VERA magazine.

HBO Max The Flight Attendant

Now this one is right up our aisle, and although we know a thing or two about cabin crew...grisly murders, not so much. But we do recognise excellent fiction when we see it! This eight-part series follows struggling flight attendant Cassie Bowden, played by Kaley Cuoco, and the fallout from a very unfortunate layover. After a night out with a passenger, she wakes up in her hotel in Bangkok to find his dead body in her bed with no memory of what happened. Don’t you hate it when that happens? The series follows Cassie as she tries to cover up the scene and then investigates what really happened. This is a highly addictive, stylish, and intriguing mystery with a bit of dark comedy thrown in for good measure. It's certainly a great way to while away the time as you observe our own professional cabin crew behaving impeccably, as they always do.

Raised by Wolves

Raised By Wolves

If it's escapism you're after, “Raised by Wolves” will take you 600 light-years away to the exoplanet Kepler-22b. That's actually a real place, discovered by NASA in 2009 and thought to be one of the first planets outside our solar system capable of supporting life. This 10-part  sci-fi thriller takes place on this beautiful and outlandish alien world after the Earth has been destroyed by a religious war. Yikes. Mother and Father are two androids tasked with raising the last human babies, but things go awry when a group of religious Earth survivors turn up to test the android's parenting skills! This intelligent and beautifully crafted sci-fi series explores humanity, family, and ideology, with one critic describing mother as the most memorable female/female-like space entity since Sigourney Weaver's Ripley in “Alien.” Truly out of this world.

Friends: The Reunion

Friends The Reunion

It's been seventeen years (yes, you read that right) since Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer appeared in the last ever episode of “Friends.” Despite that, the show has really stood the test of time and still attracts global audiences including some new (and some very famous) fans. Now, for the first time since 2004, the gang are back together for this delightful reunion that has something for everyone. For the legions of diehard Friends fans, it's an elixir. If you've never seen an episode, this is still a wildly entertaining show. Hosted by James Corden, the team comes together to stroll around the original set and sit on the famous Central Perk couch. Here they reminisce, read from their favourite scripts and take us on a wonderful, funny, and emotional trip down memory lane. The show also has a galaxy of star guests talking about their favourite episodes and moments. These include Maggie Wheeler, the show's Janice Litman-Goralnik, James Michael Tyler, the show’s Gunther, Justin Bieber, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, David Beckham, Tom Selleck, Korean boy band BTS and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Malala Yousafzai who we discover is obsessed with the show.

Our VERA December edition is 84 pages of pure lifestyle, travel, food and onboard entertainment joy. To accompany our HBO Max trio of sensational shows, VERA magazine includes an exclusive feature-length interview with Kaley Cuoco, the star of “The Flight Attendant”, a Q and A with rising star and “Raised by Wolves” actor Niamh Algar, and connects with “Friends” superfan Stuart Heritage about five big life lessons we can still learn from the show. VERA magazine will also guide you through the rest of our incredible selection of movies (we're particularly looking forward to “The Suicide Squad,” which involves a giant alien starfish), TV shows, documentaries, boxsets and music. It also has the best writing to inspire and inform you with fascinating facts, take you to faraway places, and keep you up to date with everything going on here at Virgin Atlantic. This month we hand out some excellent recipes from the Atlanta cocktail scene, go on a road trip through the Scottish seasons and get shopping tips from great British brands. If, after all that, you still  can't decide what to watch or listen to, seek out the Virgin Loves heart logos in the entertainment guide. These are awarded to programmes that really impress our onboard entertainment team.  That's not easy to do because they watch and listen to an awful lot of content before deciding what goes onboard.

If you can't wait until you get on board, you can read and download VERA magazine here.
