We’re also marking International Women’s Day this year by naming two of our new Airbus A350 aircraft in honour of two iconic women. G-VLIB, ‘Lady Emmeline’ will pay homage to the founder of the suffragette movement and women’s rights activist, Emmeline Pankhurst. And G-VEVE will be named ‘Fearless Lady’ in celebration of Eve Branson, Richard’s mum, who sadly passed away in January.
International Women’s Day occurs on the 8th March and is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality raising awareness against bias and taking action for equality. By coincidence, the 8th of March is also the day, in 1910, when Raymonde de Laroche became the first woman to be issued with a pilots license. This is celebrated every year by International Women of Aviation Week.
