Airline loyalty programmes and tiers

Become a Flying Club Gold member in an instant, by proving you are in the top tier of one of the below airline loyalty schemes.  You'll also need to have a future revenue or redemption flight booked with Virgin Atlantic on a Virgin Atlantic flight or one of our codeshare partners with a VS flight number in either Premium or Upper Class, and not have held a Flying Club status previously. 

Become a Silver member with proof you match a similar tier of one of the below airline loyalty schemes.  You'll also need to have a future revenue or redemption flight booked with Virgin Atlantic on a Virgin Atlantic flight or one of our codeshare partners with a VS flight number, which can be in any cabin, and to not have held Flying Club status previously using status match.

To qualify for this offer, you must be an existing member of Flying Club, or enrol in the Flying Club programme online or via our Customer Centre. 

To qualify for Gold status you must have-

  • A future revenue or redemption flight booked on Virgin Atlantic or one of its codeshare partners in either premium or upper class.
  • At least one flight in your itinerary with a Virgin Atlantic (VS) flight number.
  • Top tier membership with a qualifying airline.

To qualify for Silver status you must have-

  • A future revenue or redemption flight booked on Virgin Atlantic or one of its codeshare partners in economy class or higher.
  • At least one flight in your itinerary with a Virgin Atlantic (VS) flight number.
  • Second tier membership with a qualifying airline.

If you have top tier membership with another airline but an economy booking with us we are only able to offer you Silver status. If you upgrade your flight prior to the status match being actioned please let us know. We may be able to review your application and offer you Gold status. 

This offer is not available to Flying Club members who have previously enjoyed Flying Club Gold or Silver status via a status match within the past 5 years.

This offer is not available to Flying Club members who also hold any level of membership with one of our Skyteam partners.

Proof of your other airline status must be provided. This proof must include your full name, status level and expiry date of your current status. Your matching status must be valid at the time of travel.

Once received, our team will review and advise the details of what status you are eligible for, and you will be notified of your new Flying Club status via email.

Your status will be upgraded 72 hours before your qualifying flight. Status matches are only valid if the member has their Virgin Atlantic flying club number entered into their qualifying booking at the time of application and at the time of travel.

Once your flying club account tier is updated it can take up to 48 hours for the new status to show on your booking.

If you apply for a status match within 48 hours of your qualifying flight your new status may not be updated by the time of your departure. You will not be able to take advantage of your new status benefits until your reservation has been updated with your new status level.  

If you change your dates or travel plans you will need to advise the status match team of this prior to departure. Your status match is linked to the qualifying booking provided at the time of application. If this booking is subsequently cancelled or changed without notice your match will be cancelled and your status will revert to red. You will also not be able to apply for any future status matches.

Your Flying Club Gold or Silver membership will be valid from 12 months from the date the account is upgraded. 

Gold members will need to earn 1000 tier points in the membership period to retain Gold status. 

Silver members will need to earn 400 tier points in the membership period to retain Silver status. 

Members who open multiple accounts to take advantage of a status match are in breach of the Flying Club terms and conditions and may face restrictions or closure of all of their accounts. Members are only permitted one Flying Club account.

This offer cannot be transferred to any other traveller. 

Virgin Atlantic reserves the right to withdraw the offer at any time if deemed necessary. Approval for the Gold and Silver membership is at the discretion of Virgin Atlantic.
