This page is for passengers who have a mobility impairment who require special seating, and want to know what to expect from the toilet facilities on board. It tells you how to arrange special seating before you fly.

We want to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible on your flight with us, so we offer special seating for passengers that need it. Our cabin crew will also be happy to help you to and from the toilet door.

Depending on your level of mobility, you’ll need to consider the following information with us when we allocate your seat:

Moveable-armrest seats

If you have mobility issues you may want to use a seat with a moveable aisle armrest. On most of our aircraft these are at every seat in the Economy cabin that is not at bulkhead or exit.

Generally, seats on Economy exit rows, bulkhead seats, all seats in Premium and Upper Class, and rows 60 D,E,F,G on the Airbus A330 do not have moveable armrests. However, there are some exceptions:

  • On some of our 747-400 fleet operating from Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow, the moveable aisle armrests are only at rows 26C-27C/29C-37C/30H-37H and 31DG-37DG. 
  • On our A332 fleet the moveable aisle armrests are located at rows 15-46 C/D/G/H. 
  • On our A330 fleet our Premium seats on the left side of an aisle have moveable armrests.

Upper Class seating

On our A332 fleet the Solo Corner Suite (rows A and K) is not easily accessible, we wouldn't reccommend this seat if you require easy access. Take a look at the seat map and find the seat most suitable for you.

If you or someone you’re travelling with needs spinal support or posture control to sit upright, we can provide Burnett Body Support for adults and the travel chair for children – check below for details of each.

The Burnett Body Support, for passengers aged approx. 12 and above.

The Burnett Body Support is a sheepskin-covered beanbag with full back support, a headrest and two side arms. A member of the cabin crew will use a foot pump to remove the air from inside the bag, allowing it to mould itself around the passenger for perfect support.

Travel chair – for children aged approx 3-11

Our travel chair fits snugly into the aircraft seat and has a five-point harness to provide upper-body support. The chair is generally suitable for children aged 3 – 11, depending on their size. If used within our Economy and Premium cabins, the Travel chair must be fitted within the last row of a cabin zone.

Bringing your own support

If you have your own support that you would find comfortable it's worth giving our Special Assistance department a call to see if you can use it onboard. If the support is safe to use onboard and will fit in the aircraft seat they should be able to clear it for travel.

The Child Aviation Restraint System (CARES)

The CARES harness fits around the back of the seat and attaches to the aircraft seatbelt to provide restraint for the upper part of a child's body. It is suitable for children (both able bodied and disabled) between 2 and 4 years old, weighing between 22lb - 44lb (10-20kg), whose height is 40” (100cm) or less and who can sit upright in their own aircraft seat.

The CARES harness can be used in the Economy and Premium cabins but must be fitted within the last row of a cabin zone. It also cannot be used in any seats fitted with an airbag-seatbelt, including our Upper Class suites.

The level of accessibility of our onboard toilets depends on which kind of plane you’re flying on:

  • Most of our Airbus planes are equipped with one fully wheelchair-accessible toilet. Our A332 aircraft only have partially accessible toilets. 
  • Our Boeing 747-400 aircraft have partially accessible toilets.

Our cabin crew will be happy to help you to and from the toilet door, using the onboard wheelchair that is on every aircraft. However the crew cannot assist inside the toilet itself, for hygiene reasons.
